Dr Julie Wakerley B.V.Sc. (Hons.) M.R.C.V.S. (Senior Vet)

Dr Julie Wakerley B.V.Sc. (Hons.) M.R.C.V.S. (Senior Vet)

Julie graduated from Liverpool Veterinary University. Julie had carried out some of her training with Mrs Ross whilst at university then after an initial job in mixed practice in north Yorkshire was persuaded to join her in 1987. She became a partner in 1992.  Her interests include diagnostic imaging (x-rays and ultrasound), dentistry; soft tissue, ophthalmic (eye) and orthopaedic surgery.  She finds wound management and reconstructive surgery a particularly interesting challenge.

Having been in this practice now since 1987 she has seen two generations of pets come and go and families of children grow up. This has brought happy and sad times but for her is one of the great pleasures of general practice work.

It is one of the reasons she has always preferred that we do our own out of hours work, as she feels it would let people down if they had to go elsewhere in an emergency.

She enjoys being able to offer as complete a service as possible in one practice as the challenge of being a good ‘all rounder’ provides variety and keeps you fresh and up to date.

When Julie is not working she likes to spend time reading, painting in oils, attending the theatre and ballet. She spends most of her time with her two horses, riding Barney and taking care of recently retired Higgins. She has become a late convert to gardening.
